I would run, not walk from this situation. One's allegiance needs to be to Jesus Christ, not to a pastor. I believe in loyalty (served at the same body for 20 years, only leaving when it disintegrated). But this kind of "covenant" smacks of clergy control. The pastor's job is not to run the lives of his parishioners, but to equip the saints for the work of the ministry. The kind of insecurity this "covenant" implies is often the underlying cause for a lot of abuse. What else is this pastor demanding? I would pray seriously for godly wisdom (James 1:5) and direction.Dan Vhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13342073888127119686noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1475025550605616435.post-39245694514373386972010-06-28T19:36:00.183-05:002010-06-28T19:36:00.183-05:00Very well said my friend...Very well said my friend...Shelly Gambrell (my2zs)noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1475025550605616435.post-55150890589578904072010-05-28T09:59:56.255-05:002010-05-28T09:59:56.255-05:00Lord that You would go before these men and prepar...Lord that You would go before these men and prepare the path which You have asked them to travel. We're definitely praying for you.
I...Hey, TJ
We're definitely praying for you.
I've been in a youth group situation such as you describe twice before. The first time, we were considering leaving our church to get our two older children connected with effective youth ministry. God's answer that time was to put me into leadership of youth ministry at our church.

Years later, our church once again had no viable youth ministry, and I was serving in a different position. That time, God gave us permission for our youngest to attend a different church's youth group, and it worked out fine.

I'm trusting God will give you a satisfactory answer. I understand your hesitance to drag your family back into what could be a difficult situation - but don't fear! God will direct you and won't lead you astray, if you truly wait on His guidance. Meanwhile, we're agreeing with you in prayer and believing you'll find Godly wisdom for this decision. I told them it was so that I will always be reminded that I am raising a man, not a little boy, and that is what God expects of me. It makes you react differently, speak differently, and answer questions differently when you remember that.

This is true in all we teach him. Including how he handles his faith. We have always answered his questions with honesty and truthfulness, even if it meant telling a 4 year old that hell was real. Answering "yes" when a 6 year old asked if his unbelieving family members would go there. Then defending his right in school to share his faith when he was discouraged by others to do so. We as parents must always consider that our actions will teach our sons how to handle their faith when they are men. Will we teach them half truths and bending to others, or standing firm on the entirety of God's Word?Kelly (race_12_1)http://www.layingongodsanvil.comnoreply@blogger.com
